If you are looking for a playhouse for your child, you will want to do a comparison in order to decide on purchasing a wooden one, or a plastic one. There are a lot of things that you should consider when you are making this decision. You want to get your child a playhouse that is safe, fun, and allows their imagination to run wild. There are benefits to each types of playhouse, you have to use your own discretion in deciding on the proper one for your child.

A wooden playhouse, such as the KidKraft Wooden Playhouse, will allow your child to feel like a little adult. They can make believe that they have their own home. Some things children like about the KidKraft Wooden Playhouse is that it has the appearance of a wooden cabin. It has a working wooden door that opens and closes, a sink, and its own mailbox. This playhouse is also weather resistant. This will help it to stand up to the weather conditions for much longer. It will fit 2 to 3 children in it at a time, this gives the kids somewhere to play where they can feel independent. It is suggested for children that are between the ages of 2 and 8 years old. This playhouse costs about $359.00.

Another option for you is a plastic playhouse. One Plastic playhouse that you will want to take a look at when you are doing your comparison is the Step2 Nature Station Playhouse. This playhouse will also give your child the feeling of being out in nature, as it provides that same cabin appearance. This playhouse has a round window which features a working shutter. It also has a sink so that your child will feel like a real little grown up. If your child loves nature, they will appreciate the features that have been put in to place to help them feel like a real outdoors person. There is a shelf for examining things like flowers and bugs, as well as an entire kit of bug finding tools. It also fits 2 to 3 children, the age range for this playhouse is 3 to 5 years. This playhouse costs about $259.00, as you can see the plastic ones tend to run cheaper.

When you are doing your comparison of wooden versus plastic playhouses you want to consider where the playhouse will be kept. If you live in a sunny climate, the wooden playhouse may be a better choice. However, if you are planning on having the playhouse in the house or on a patio area, then you may want to go with the plastic playhouse. While both of these playhouses will provide your child with hours of entertainment, you will want to choose the one that fits your child’s personality. If your child is more concerned with making their playhouse feel like a regular home, then the KidKraft will provide them this. However, the Step2 Nature Station Playhouse is just the thing for a child that wants to have a place they can go to enjoy investigating their findings in your yard. If you are looking for a larger playhouse, then you will find that the plastic models are much easier to fit into your budget, they can run you hundreds of dollars less than the wooden playhouses.Similar Posts:

It is a way to get the whole family outdoors goofing around. In addition, a trampoline provides each person with exercise without them even realizing it. However, trampoline safety is something that anyone who owns one needs to be responsible about.

It is never a good idea to allow children to use a trampoline without an adult present. If you have other children that frequently come to your home, make sure their parents don’t mind if they use the trampoline.

To help prevent accidents from someone bouncing off the trampoline, it is a good idea to get a safety net. They are made for any shape or size or trampoline you can purchase. Another good idea is to dig holes deep in the ground. You can then set the trampoline into the ground. You will still get the same bouncing effects, but the entire piece of equipment may only be a foot from the ground.

Make sure your trampoline is safely away from power lines, fences, trees, and any other item that could lead to injuries. You need a clearance of 10 feet all the way around the trampoline and 20 feet in the air. You need to routinely check the trampoline for broken or stressed springs and hooks.

The more people on a trampoline at one time, the more likely accidents are to occur. This is because the bouncing of each person affects the others. There is also a great risk of being hit by someone else who also has no control over their movements. Never allow anyone who has been consuming drugs or alcohol to use a trampoline. Even prescription drugs can alter one’s perception.

Make sure anyone attempting to perform tricks on a trampoline knows the proper way to do them. Attempting various flips and tricks can lead to injuries. Another common cause of injuries on trampolines is due to various sports. One common sport is basketball. A basketball hoop is placed at both ends of the trampoline. The teams then play the game as usually, but with a twist as to the terrain they are playing on.

While enjoying a trampoline is encouraged, accidents do happen. Trampoline safety needs to always be a priority. More than 75,000 people are seen for medical treatment each year due to trampoline injuries. They include sprained ankles and wrists, broken bones, missing teeth, head injuries, and even death.Similar Posts:

While trampolines are fantastic tools for getting your kids – or yourself – outdoors and active, often parents and potential trampoline users forget to consider the serious health and safety concerns that go along with trampoline use. Used improperly, trampolines can cause serious and irreparable injuries, ranging from sprained or cracked ankles and wrists, to skull fractures, to the worst of all: broken backs or necks.

The list of potential injuries may sound discouraging, but the idea is that if you use a trampoline properly, you won’t need to worry about these kinds of tragic accidents. To avoid these injuries, here are a few things you should avoid doing – and make sure your children don’t do – while on a trampoline:

NEVER allow more than one person on the trampoline at once. Allowing multiple users on a trampoline can result in serious collisions or falls.

NEVER attempt stunts or somersaults while on the trampoline. As fun as it may be to try and imitate Olympic gymnasts, the difference is that they’re trained athletes in a supervised facility. Stunts and somersaults are advanced moves, and landing wrong may result in a broken neck and possible paralysis.

NEVER jump off the trampoline and onto the ground.Stop jumping, and carefully make your way to the edge of the trampoline to get down. Unless, of course, you were hoping for a broken ankle.

DO remove all loose jewelry, hats, or articles of clothing that might catch in the trampoline springs. If one of these items falls off while jumping, there is also the potential for slipping on it, which may cause injury.

DO set up your trampoline on a level, clear area with soft ground. There should be at least 2 meters clearance on all sides of the trampoline, free of things like toys, trees, or laundry lines. Never place the trampoline on a hard surface like concrete, just in case.

DO make sure your trampoline model has shock-absorbing safety pads around the outside edge to cover the hooks, springs and frame. The safety pads must be a different color from the trampoline bed, so that users can clearly distinguish the edge of the trampoline while jumping.

The first thing you should do before ever stepping onto the trampoline, or allowing anyone else to do so, is to take a walk around the unit and inspect the trampoline for rips, tears, or potential obstructions. While this may seem redundant to do each time, even one small tear could result in a devastating injury. For your own protection and the safety of your family, these few simple precautions can ensure that you and your family have a fun, safe, and enjoyable trampoline experience for years to come!Similar Posts:

Whether you live in a tropical climate and enjoy your pool year round, or if you regularly winterize your pool after enjoying it throughout the summer months, one thing is certain: pools must be kept clean.

It doesn’t take long for new pool owners to realize that their cool and refreshing oasis can instantly become a swamp that houses your sixth grader’s next science experiment if not properly maintained. Algae, bacteria, and an overgrowth of germs can make even the nicest pools a hotbed for sickness and disease. Knowing how to effectively clean pool water is key to enjoying your swimming pool.

First, many people decide that the best option is to hire a professional pool cleaner. It may seem simple at first, but maintaining clean pool water on a regular basis takes a commitment to regularly perform cleaning tasks, as well as an understanding of the various chemicals involved. If for instance, your pool developed algae, you would need to understand the right chemicals to add to restore the balance and proper PH level of your pool. However, if you can’t afford to hire a professional, you can properly maintain clean pool water, you just need to understand the various chemicals and their use.

To begin with, you will need Chlorine, Shock treatment, PH, Bromine Tablets, Cyanuric Acid, Bicarbonate, Screener, and a Pool Vacuum, and a pool scrubbing brush for keeping tiles clean from grime, oil, and debris. You will also need to purchase a pool testing kit to make sure that the PH levels and other important readings are in the proper range. Make sure that you understand how to use each chemical according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The simplest method of cleaning the pool is to use a skimmer and to remove all leafs or floating debris. This must be done regularly. In addition, it is imperative that you keep your pool’s filter system well maintained. Failure to regularly clean the filter can cause the pool’s pump to break. It is very important to regularly brush the sides of the pool as well. Vacuuming, brushing, and checking the pool’s strainer baskets are all tasks that should be completed every week.

If you find that wind is causing a lot of debris to build up in your pool, the best treatment is to vacuum more often. Larger leaves and debris at the bottom of the pool should be removed before they enter the filtration system. You can easily remove these by using a leaf bagger. Finally, be sure to store all pool chemicals safely out of the reach of children, and pool equipment out of direct sunlight.Similar Posts:

A swimming pool is one of those things that everyone likes during the hot summer months, because it can be very refreshing when the temperatures begin to rise. A swimming pool is also a very good way to exercise, because it is a full body workout with very little impact on the bones or joints.

However there are many factors that need to be considered before a swimming pool is built. There must be adequate space in the backyard, a good fence surrounding the area for the pool, and then a decision has to be made to have an above ground one put in, or have an under ground one built in. An above ground pool and an under ground pool both have their share of pros and cons, so they must be weighed appropriately in order to make a good decision.

An above ground pool does not look as good as an under ground pool, because the sides of the pool are visible and not usually very flattering. It also does not add as much property value to a house when it is put in.

However an above ground pool is much cheaper than an underground one. Above ground pools are usually cheaper because they are prefabricated, and do not require excavation, or any under ground plumbing to be installed. Above ground pools usually do not require a heater, because the water is heated by the sun, and the since the water is above ground the heat from the water does not get distributed to the ground around it. An under ground pool usually takes quite a bit longer to get hot during the summer, because the soil around it pulls the heat out of the water.

Another very important thing to consider when choosing what type of pool to put in is cleaning. A pool is always going to get dirt and leaves in it, but an above ground one will get much less than an under ground pool. An under ground pool usually gets much more dirt in it, because it is even with the ground and everything can blow into it very easily. Also bugs and rodents can get into an under ground pool much more easily than an above ground pool, because it is even with the ground.

With all of this said it sounds like an above ground pool would be a slam dunk choice, but many people really prefer the aesthetics and added property value that comes with an under ground pool.Similar Posts:

Now there are many definitions of toys. Whether you are talking about toys for small children, teenagers, or adults, the main difference is in how much they cost, the older we are the more expensive toys we buy!

Children are the easiest to please, though. They can make just about anything into a toy. It’s not necessary to spend a fortune. A simple ball and bat, or a flying disc is sometimes worth hours of laughs and healthy exercise. Here are some more ideas.

Sprinklers are timeless. On hot days, nothing beats running through the sunshine over the cool refreshing water coming from a sprinkler. There is a modern beach ball sprinkler that puts a twist on this, too, that you can buy. It looks like a beach ball, but when you turn the water on, it becomes a sprinkler! A big hit!

What about swings? We all remember that from our childhood. Swings are classically fun and entertaining. No growing up experience would be complete without a lot of time spent on the swings. There are many sets available for backyard installation. Make sure you install it properly and maintain it regularly. An un-maintained swing set is a potential safety hazard. That would take away the fun of playtime, now, wouldn’t it?

There are modern sandboxes for the little ones that include play centers in cool colors and also feature an umbrella to keep the tikes from getting sunburn! (Sunscreen is still a good idea, though, whenever necessary.) These play sets also include a small area where a couple gallons of water can be filled in for playing and getting wet without the need for a kiddy pool.

What about climbing frames, jungle gyms, and so on? These types of play sets are fun, but must be considered carefully. Remember that if these systems are too tall for any of your children, you’re risking a fall. To prevent injury, put soft gym mats or other material down underneath the set.

There are also many radio controlled cars and airplanes that can bring hours of enjoyment to your children. You remember those! As children we used to use these toys until the batteries ran out or until they broke! Your kids will, too, and they’ll love every minute of it. Some of the RC racecars are faster than ever before! How about purchasing two of them and let two children, or one child and an adult have a race? The helicopters and airplanes that are radio controlled can fly higher and farther than ever, and can stay in the air longer than before! Definitely worth checking out!

Water guns and other water based toys are a must for summertime fun! Squirt guns aren’t what they used to be. Now there are the pump type rifles with a huge reservoir in the back of the gun. They’re fluorescent in color usually, which keeps the spirit of fun alive (don’t get toy guns that look like real guns—this is not the right impression to leave in a child’s mind!).

Water slides are great, but can be dangerous, so make sure you read and follow any instructions provided with these. Remember: whatever outdoor toys you get for your kids, safety should always be priority #1! Priority #2 is to teach the kids to enjoy whatever they have, not to take things for granted, and to just use their imaginations. Perhaps there is no toy a child can have better than their own imagination!Similar Posts:

Today’s parents have so many choices when it comes to finding a safe and fun swing set that it can be overwhelming. I thought I would share a few lessons my family has learned from our own swing set purchase and installation. I call them my “Golden Threes of Swing Set Placement”.

Rule Number 1 of Swing Set Placement: Before you open the first catalog, visit the first website, or go to the home and garden center – measure your backyard. Don’t forget that swings are meant to swing. Add at least 6 feet in all directions for people to walk and Daddies to push swingers; otherwise you might find yourself dragging a half-assembled swing set across the yard and begging it to not fall apart. The kids and pets will think this is quite exciting, but trust me – your back will hate it.

Rule Number 2 of Swing Set Placement: Leave the kids out of the actual buying decision. What kid wants the “budget” model swing set when the “deluxe” model also has a cool fort? Remember, extras may increase the space required for safe play. That tall oak tree may become irresistible for climbing once the fort puts the lowest branch within reach.

Rule Number 3 of Swing Set Placement: That crooked screw will impale itself in someone’s body no matter how hidden you thought it was. Make sure all the screw heads are flush, and routinely check to make sure all screws and bolts remain firmly in place. Swing sets set up on uneven ground will be more apt to rack out of shape and make it harder to properly secure the connecting bolts and screws.

Smart Idea 1 for Better Placement of Swing Sets: Select the flattest part of your yard. Make sure where any support beams go into the ground, the slide ends, and those pushing swingers will stand is particularly flat. If you trip over that exposed root, it’s doubtful Daddy will be able to get out of the way before the swinger comes back.

Smart Idea 2 for Better Placement of Swing Sets: The area you have set aside to place your swing set may be too small. Larger pieces may require additional room in order to be set into place than they will once the swing set is fully assembled. No matter how much we may wish it, wood and metal simply won’t bend to clear trees, fences, and existing yard ornaments.

Smart Idea 3 for Better Placement of Swing Sets: Select an area of the yard where you are willing to forego having grass. Putting down a layer of wood chips or sand makes for softer landings. It’s amazing how hard grass can be when you fall after catching your little one who suddenly thinks swings make great human rocket launchers and Daddy is a giant catcher’s mitt. Be honest, you know every kid tries this at least once. If your children are more apt to make contact with the ground, you might also want to consider adding shock-absorbing rubber matting or try some of the new mulches made from old tires.

Suggestion Number 1 – Avoid My Mistakes: Send the kids to grandma’s or school before attempting assembly. You’re less likely to get hurt and more likely to actually place the swing set where you want it to be.

Suggestion Number 2 – Avoid My Mistakes: Place the swing set where it can be seen from the windows inside your kitchen and/or primary living areas. Children will be more likely to obey the house rules for using the swing set if they know parents can see them.

Suggestion Number 3 – Avoid My Mistakes: When you assemble the swing set, make sure the swing set is capable of supporting your adult frame before you do any “testing”.

Reminder Number 1 – Never Forget: Trees, bushes and other plants grow. Make sure that sweet little sapling doesn’t become public enemy number one as it grows into a hazard for swingers. Be sure to select a location for your swing set that will remain free of natural hazards.

Reminder Number 2 – Never Forget: It’s amazing how many places kids will try to put their heads. Make sure any gaps in railings or the support structure are either too small for curious heads or too big to be interesting.

Reminder Number 3 – Never Forget: Metal and wood can get hot in direct sunlight. Place your swing set in a somewhat shaded location out of the mid-afternoon sun.

Always read the documentation and instructions that come with your swing set. And by following my Golden Threes of Swing Set Placement your children will enjoy many years of safe play on their swing set.Similar Posts:
